The interpretation of a specimen of handwriting into the mechanical
relationships necessary for a successful digital typeface involves an
understanding of the elements of form that contribute to the unique
identity that is conveyed in the inter-relationships of various letters. The
writing instrument and the writing surface contribute their own character
to the letterforms. Pen-Drawn is based on a traditional aldine italic
letter, as produced in large proportion with a narrow nib on a rough
ground.
